Community Philharmonic Orchestra Music & Arts

Founded in 2000, the Trinity Community Philharmonic Orchestra is a unique orchestra composed of Trinity International University students, faculty, alumni, and musicians from the surrounding community. Currently, under the direction of the talented Eli Chen, he seeks to bring people together and explore the questions and issues of our lives through the power of music.

ELI CHEN, Director

Eli Chen (director) – As an active performer in the Chicago area, Mr. Chen pursues a wide range of musical activities. He has worked with ensembles including Northwestern’s Undergraduate Company of Opera Singers and the Chicago Composers Orchestra on the lost opera Andina. Mr. Chen has led concerts with the Lviv Philharmonic, Berlin Sinfonietta, and the Gwinnett Symphony Chamber Orchestra. His interest in contemporary music led him to collaborate with the acclaimed Fifth House Ensemble on multiple projects, including the first U.S. tour of Mike Mills’ Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra with Robert McDuffie. Mr. Chen is the current music director of the Trinity Community Philharmonic Orchestra, principal conductor of the Ravenswood Community Orchestra, and also teaches at the Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra Project (ChiMOP). Mr. Chen received his Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Virginia in music and biochemistry, then went on to receive a Master’s degree in orchestral conducting from Northwestern University under the tutelage of Victor Yampolsky. Other pedagogues and mentors have included Mark Gibson, Larry Rachleff, Donald Schleicher, and Cliff Colnot.

Rehearsals

The TCPO rehearses on Trinity’s campus on Tuesday evenings, 7-9:30 pm, during the fall and spring semesters. Dress rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings during concert weeks.
