Professor Petersen is passionate about exploring the intersection of design, art, and theology across a spectrum of media and contexts. In her classrooms, she desires to help students unlock their potential as graphic designers and help them find their place as artists in Christ’s Kingdom. She aims to develop visually astute students who are ready to engage creative careers and practices while also assisting them in their spiritual and intellectual formation.

Her research interests include the integration of graphic design and theology; the use of design thinking for collaboration; the intersection of art, faith, and worship; and the intersection of theology, personal devotion, and the creative process.

Professor Petersen has worked in graphic design and marketing & communications for more than 15 years, specializing in design for non-profit organizations. Her experience includes extensive work in print design, web design, photography, marketing and advertising, and internal communications. She runs her own graphic design business. As a studio artist, Professor Petersen’s works include photography, oil painting, and assemblage.
